DMSO 1271   Small Parts Sonography (2) New course added May 28, 2002
This is a local need course number. Former course prefix/number DMSO 1192 and DMSO 1191.
Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in all previous courses.
Detailed study of normal and pathological superficial structures as related to scanning techniques, patient history and laboratory data, transducer selection, and scanning protocols. Detailed study of normal and pathological neonatal head structures. Review of previously covered material. (2 Lec.)

DMSO 1351   Sonographic Cross Sectional Anatomy (3)
This is a WECM course number. Former course prefix/number SONO 2377.
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" or better in all previous courses.
This course focuses on a detailed study of the anatomy of the abdomen and pelvis including anatomical relationships of organs such as the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and vascular structures and body planes and quadrants. (3 Lec.)

DMSO 1355   Sonographic Pathophysiology (3)

Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in all previous sonography courses.
A study of the pathology and pathophysiology of the abdominal structures visualized with ultrasound examination including the urinary and reproductive systems and superficial parts. (3 Lec.)

DMSO 1366   Practicum (or Field Experience)-Diagnostic Medical Sonography (3)
This is a WECM course number. Former course prefix/number SONO 2375.
Prerequisite: Grade of "C" or better in all previous sonography courses.
Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student. (24 Ext.)

Detailed study of normal and pathological abdominal and pelvic structures as related to scanning techniques, patient history and laboratory data, transducer selection, and scanning protocols. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.)

DMSO 2101   Ultrasound Instrumentation (1)
This is a WECM course number. Former course prefix/number SONO 2173.
Prerequisite: A grade of "C " or better in all previous courses.
This course focuses on the basic pulse-echo ultrasound system including components and function of the scanner, display system, scan converter, and hard copy units. Emphasis on Doppler production and display and safety and performance issues. (1 Lec.)

DMSO 2170   Ultrasound Advanced Topics (1) New course added April 17, 2003
This is a local need course number.
Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in all previous program courses.
This course will address technological and professional advances in the field of ultrasound. Topics will include professional development and ultrasound ergonomics. Advances in equipment and the use of contrast in ultrasound will be covered. (4 Lab.)

Advanced course emphasizing the theory and practice of ultrasound principles including advances in ultrasound technology (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

DMSO 2345   Advanced Sonography Practices (3)
This is a WECM course number. Former course prefix/number SONO 2379.
Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in all previous sonography courses.
Advanced sonographic procedures and special topics. Review of previously covered material is included. Vascular methodology, case studies, and film critique are discussed. This is the capstone experience for the DMSO program. (3 Lec.)
