EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES -- PARAMEDICINE

Brookhaven only

(Associate in Applied Sciences Degree)

(Students pursuing this AAS program are required to meet all TASP requirements.)

Degree Plan Code: AAS.EMS.PARAMED

Emergency medical technicians-paramedics, working under the direction of a physician (often through radio communication), recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured patients in pre-hospital care settings. EMT-Paramedics work principally in advanced life-support units and ambulance services under medical supervision and direction.

This degree plan combines classroom teaching with supervised clinical and field experience for the emergency medical health professional. Upon successful completion of all course work for the degree, the student is eligible to take the exam for registration as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic through the National Registry of EMTs. Successful completion of that exam is necessary to apply for certification or licensure as a Paramedic to the Texas Department of Health.

If you are a nationally certified EMT and enrolled in Brookhaven College, credit may be given for EMSP 1501, 1160, and 1314.
