Students are taught how to develop simple scripts to automate frequently executed sequences of commands, and how to use conditional logic, user interaction, loops, and menus to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the user. This course is intended for programmers who are familiar with the Solaris operating environment and who would like to read and understand various C shell scripts and write their own shell scripts to automate their day-to-day tasks. Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
A study of personal computer operating systems. Topics include installation and configuration, file management, memory and storage management, control of peripheral devices, and use of utilities. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

ITSC 1407   UNIX Operating System I (4)

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
A study of the UNIX operating system including multi-user concepts, terminal emulation, use of system editor, basic UNIX commands, and writing script files. Topics include introductory systems management concepts. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

ITSC 1411   AS/400 Operating System I (4)
