Students who meet the TSI State standard for reading and writing will be able to enroll into college level courses that require college level readiness in reading and writing skills. Students who meet the minimum TSI State standard for math must still score at a higher level to meet college level readiness standard as required for enrolling into college level math. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board acknowledges that colleges and universities can require a higher TSI cut score for enrollment into college level math courses since the TSI State standard for mathematics does not meet the college level math readiness standard (see grid below). Level II Certificates and Associate in Applied Sciences degrees that do not require college level math will have the passing standard for mathematics as required by the state's TSI math readiness standard. Associate in Arts, Associate in Sciences, Associate in Applied Sciences, and Level Two Certificates that require college level math will have the passing standard for mathematics as required by the state's TSI math standard plus successful completion of required DCCCD course prerequisites or by appropriate test score (see grid below). The DCCCD will use the following minimum passing standards to determine a student's readiness to enroll in freshman-level academic coursework:
Instrument | Reading | Writing WS = writing sample | State TSI Math standard for degrees not requiring math nor college level math | DCCCD TSI standard for degrees requiring college level math |
ACCUPLACER | 78 | 80 w/ WS = 5, OR WS = 6 | 63 | Ele Alg (M2) = 69, AND Intrmd Alg (CLM) = 64 |
THEA | 230 | 220 | 230 | 270 |
ASSET | 41 | 40 w/ WS = 5, OR WS = 6 | 38 | Ele Alg (M2) = 38, AND Intrmd Alg (M3) = 41 |
COMPASS | 81 | 59 w/ WS = 5, OR WS = 6 | 39 | Algebra = 70 |
