This plan is designed to meet the needs of students who plan to major in Teacher Preparation, Bilingual, Grades 4-8 and who plan to transfer to UNT (Dallas or Denton Campus). Students who complete this plan, including all degree requirements and the additional hours as shown in the plan, and meet the admissions requirements of UNT (Dallas or Denton Campus) will be granted full junior status at UNT (Dallas or Denton Campus) to pursue a bachelor's degree in this discipline. Students MUST take the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) test and score at least 240 on Reading, 220 on Writing, and 230 on Math in order to be accepted into this program at UNT.
This plan incorporates the DCCCD 48-hour core that will be accepted in full by UNT (Dallas or Denton Campus) for its own core and an additional 15 hours of degree requirements. The AS degree will be awarded when students complete all requirements at a minimum of 63 credit hours. This plan also includes an additional 18 hours beyond the AS degree and are approved by UNT to count toward the major. Students with Spanish-speaking abilities are encouraged to receive credit for the Spanish language courses through the appropriate CLEP examination.
In order to be eligible to receive this AS degree, a student must:
- Complete a minimum of 63 credit hours indicated in this plan (students are strongly encouraged to complete the additional 18 hours shown in this plan);
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, Speech 1315, and Math 1314 or 1414;
- Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.00 ("C");
- Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course requirements; and
- Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.
Students who plan to transfer must work with an advisor.
