RADIOLOGIC SCIENCESBrookhaven and El Centro only (Associate in Applied Sciences Degree, Tech Prep)
Degree Plan Code: AAS.RADIOLOG.SCI.05 This program prepares the student to become a professional radiologic technologist with a specialty in radiography. The radiographer uses radiation to produce internal images of the patient which are used by the physician to make a diagnosis. For the vast majority of diagnostic procedures, the radiographer has total responsibility for the care and well-being of the patient and must be prepared to produce quality images with care and empathy. The graduate radiographer is eligible to sit for the examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and eligible to be a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist licensed by the Texas Department of Health. Radiographers work in hospitals, physician's offices, and primary care facilities. Students wishing to be admitted to the El Centro Radiography program must comply with the following criteria outlined in this paragraph. Admission requirements include an information session, satisfactory scores on pre-entrance assessment testing, completion of four prerequisite courses with a minimum of 2.5 grade point average and completion of all requirements for admission as a full-time student to the College. Applicants are rank-ordered for admission based on grade point average earned for the prerequisite courses. Applicants should contact the Assessment Center at El Centro College to sign up for the assessment tests and Health Occupations Admissions to obtain an information packet. Students wishing to be admitted to the Brookhaven Radiography program must comply with the following criteria outlined in this paragraph. The student must be admitted to a DCCCD college, have completed the four prerequisite courses with a 3.0 grade point average or higher and a "B" or higher in SCIT 1407 or BIOL 2401, attend an information session for the program and complete an application packet within the designated filing period. Applicants will be required to submit a comprehensive application packet to the BHC Radiologic Science office that will be used during the selection process. The selection process contains several criteria that are outlined on the BHC Radiology website http://www.brookhavencollege.edu/instrudiv/emshealth/radtech.html. Application packets will be available at the information sessions. Although the admission requirements vary from El Centro to Brookhaven, the program of courses are the same with the exception of six courses. Those attending El Centro will enroll in courses specified as HPRS (Health Professions and Related Sciences): Semester I

The El Centro program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 900, Chicago, Illinois 60606-2901: Telephone number 312-704-5300). The Brookhaven program is in the process of obtaining accreditation from the above organization.
