This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
This course is for the non-science major. It covers the interaction of the earth sciences and the physical world. Geology, astronomy, meteorology, and space science are included. Selected principles and concepts of the applied sciences are explored. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)
Coordinating Board Academic Approval Number 4006015103

GEOL 1403   Physical Geology (4)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
This course is for science and non-science majors. It is a study of earth materials and processes. Included is an introduction to geochemistry, geophysics, the earth's interior, and magnetism. The earth's setting in space, minerals, rocks, structures, and geologic processes are also included. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)
Coordinating Board Academic Approval Number 4006015103

GEOL 1404   Historical Geology (4)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
This course is for science and non-science majors. It is a study of earth materials and processes within a developmental time perspective. Fossils, geologic maps, and field studies are used to interpret geologic history. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)
Coordinating Board Academic Approval Number 4006015103

GEOL 1405   Environmental Geology (4)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
The earth as a habitat: a study of the interrelationships between humans and the physical environment. Topics covered include: minerals and rocks as resources, landscape development and its effect on humans, groundwater resources, the earth's internal processes and their relation to natural disasters, soils and weathering, the atmosphere and oceans, the earth's energy system, geologic factors in urban and regional land use planning, and related current issues in environmental geosciences. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)
