HPRS 1202 Wellness and Health Promotion (2) This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: None. An overview of wellness theory and its application throughout the lifespan of an individual. Focus is on attitude development, impact of cultural beliefs, and communication of wellness. Integration of common and alternative health practices and solutions to overall well-being are studied, assessed, and explored for the community. (2 Lec.) |

HPRS 1203 Death and Dying (2) This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: None. This course will provide an overview of the role of the nurse in working with dying client, families or caregivers of dying clients. This course is also intended to help the student understand the nature of death and dying as well as enable the student to come to grips with one's own personal feelings about death. It therefore has a cognitive as well as an affective component. To that end, while a majority of class time will be spent dealing with the "academics" of death, the course will also allow for a lot of time for an open discussion/sharing of feelings and experiences. HPRS 1204 Basic Health Professions Skills (2) This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: None. A study of the concepts that serve as the foundation for health profession courses, including client care and safety issues, basic client monitoring, and health documentation methods. Basic skills such as vital signs, phlebotomy, catherization, sterile and aseptic technique, pulse oximetry are taught and required to be demonstrated by the student and integrated with critical thinking skills. This course builds on previously acquired knowledge and skills relevant to the professional development of the student. Lecture and simulated laboratory experience prepares the student to perform patient care utilizing critical thinking and advance clinical skills. Competency must be demonstrated on effective level of practice and knowledge. Skills achieved include EKG, phlebotomy, finger sticking, physical assessment, IV's. (1 Lec., 4 Lab.) |

Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course builds on previously acquired knowledge and skills. Lecture and simulated laboratory experience prepares the student to perform patient care utilizing critical thinking and advanced clinical skills. Competency must be demonstrated on effective level of practice and knowledge. Skills achieved include EKG, finger sticking, physical assessment, IV's. Exploration and application of management concepts necessary for effective health profession operations. This course incorporates and integrates principles of management such as health care delivery, strategy, and resource allocation to all forms of healthcare environments. Special emphasis is placed on finance, ethics, culture and diversity, trends, and career exploration.
