ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE WITH AN EMPHASIS IN
TEACHER PREPARATION--URBAN EDUCATION

Available at El Centro and Richland Colleges
and Transferable to the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Woman's University


Degree Code: AA.URBAN.ED.03

This is an "Articulated Emphasis" degree. Students should read and understand the paragraphs below.

This degree plan is designed to meet the needs of students who plan to major in Urban Education and pursue a teaching career. This plan will transfer directly into the Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Studies (with EC4 and EC4 Bilingual teacher certification) at UT Arlington. It will also transfer directly into the Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (with EC4 and EC4 Bilingual teacher certification) at Texas Woman's University. Students should work closely with an advisor if they plan to transfer into teacher certification programs at other universities.

In order to be eligible to receive this AA degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 61 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, either Speech 1311 or 1315, and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.00 ("C");
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites; and
  5. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

NOTE: This requirement cannot be met by using the following combinations: BIOL 1406 & 1408; CHEM 1405 & 1411; PHYS 1401 & 1405; PHYS 1401 & 2425
