Associate in Applied Sciences Degree

This degree prepares students for specific career/technical skills. The requirements for each major in the Associate in Applied Sciences Degree (AAS) are clearly shown in the curriculum patterns in this catalog located under Career and Technical Programs. Students seeking such a degree should become familiar with the specific required courses in the appropriate curriculum pattern request advisement regarding these courses as needed.

Students must have a minimum of 60 credit hours with a grade of "C" or better in each of the three general education courses

  • English 1301 or English 1302, (whichever is required),
  • Speech 1311 or 1315 (whichever is required) and
  • Mathematics 1314 or higher or Science (whichever is required).
Each Associate in Applied Sciences Degree requires students to take three credit hours from the general education categories of Humanities or Fine Arts and three credit hours from Social Sciences or Behavioral Sciences (the specific curriculum pattern will cite what students must take to meet these requirements). Additionally, each student must earn a grade point average of at least 2.00 ("C"), based on GPA #2 and meet all TSI standards in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The GPA is based only on the credit hours used to meet degree requirements and the following courses will not count toward graduation or the GPA for graduation: Courses numbered below 1000, Arts 1170, Drama 1170 and Music 9176.

For some programs, more than 60 credit hours are required. All prescribed requirements for the specific program degree in which the student is enrolled must be completed. These programs may also have other criteria in addition to degree requirements. See the Career and Technical Programs for a more detailed explanation.
