ITSC 1280   Cooperative Education - Business - Computer and Information Sciences (2)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Instructor approval prior to enrollment.
Career-related activities, encountered in the student's area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Overview of computer information systems. Introduces computer hardware, software, procedures, and human resources. Explores integration and application in business and other segments in society. Fundamentals of computer problem-solving and programming may be discussed. Examines applications and software relating to a specific curricular area. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1307   UNIX Operating System I (3)

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
A study of the UNIX operating system including multi-user concepts, terminal emulation, use of system editor, basic UNIX commands, and writing script files. Topics include introductory systems management concepts. This course is cross-listed as ITSC 1407. The student may register for either ITSC 1307 or ITSC 1407, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1315   Project Management Applications (3) New course added March 28, 2007

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
Project management software for the examination of concepts including timelines, milestones, scheduling, lifecycle phases, management frameworks, skills, processes, and tools. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
Open-source Linux operating system. Includes Linux installation, basic administration, utilities and commands, upgrading, networking, security, and application development. Emphasizes hands-on setup, administration, and management of Linux. Also covers maintaining and securing reliable Linux systems. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
Open-source Linux operating system. Open-source philosophy, history, and advocacy. Includes identification of current legal, ethical, and economic issues. Also covers a survey of available open-source software and comparison of open-source and closed-source licenses. (3 Lec.)

ITSC 1342   Shell Programming (3) New course added March 28, 2007
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401 or BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by instructor.
Reading, writing, and debugging shell scripts. Includes development of simple scripts to automate frequently executed sequences of commands. Also covers conditional logic, user interaction, loops, and menus to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the user. Intended for programmers who are familiar with operating environments and reading and writing various shell scripts. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1347   UNIX System Administration II (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: ITSC 1358 or instructor approval.
Provides students with the necessary skills to administer UNIX workstations in a network environment. System security features will be presented. This course is cross-listed as ITSC 1447. The student may register for either ITSC 1347 or ITSC 1447, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1352   Solaris Operating Environment Systems Administrations II (SA) (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: ITSC 1354 or instructor approval.
Designed for the student interested in Solaris certification. Addresses how to install and maintain Sun systems, configure and troubleshoot the Network File System (NFS) environment, and configure the Network Information Services (NIS) environment. Licensing/Certification Agency: Sun Microsystems. This course is cross-listed as ITSC 1452. The student may register for either ITSC 1352 or ITSC 1452, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1358   UNIX System Administration I (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: ITSC 1407 or instructor approval.
Provide new system administrators the basics of administering UNIX workstations. Students will perform basic system administration tasks, such as installing a standalone system, adding users, backing up and restoring file systems, and adding new printer support. Emphasis on the procedures needed to perform these system administration tasks. Introduces the concept of the system and disk management. This course is cross-listed as ITSC 1458. The student may register for either ITSC 1358 or ITSC 1458, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 1401 will not meet the computer literacy requirement in the core curriculum and/or Associate in Arts or Associate in Sciences degrees. COSC 1300 will meet this requirement. ITSC 1401 meets the computer literacy requirement in most technical certificates and degrees. COSC 1300 will not substitute for ITSC 1401 and ITSC 1401 cannot be substituted for COSC 1300.

Continued study in advanced installation and configuration troubleshooting, advanced file management, memory and storage management may be covered, as well as updating of peripheral device drivers, and use of utilities to increase system performance. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Continued study of computer applications from business productivity software suites. Instruction in embedding data and linking and combining documents using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and/or presentation media software. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 2435   Application Problem Solving (4)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: None.
Analysis and design methods and tools are studied and applied to practical situations involving various business functions. Utilization of current application software to solve advanced problems and generate customized solutions, involving projects and software specific to a specific curricular area. Topics include problem solving skills, logic structures, and programming. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

ITSC 2437   UNIX Operating System II (4)

Prerequisite: ITSC 1407 or instructor consent.
Continued study of the UNIX operating system commands. Includes additional scripting topics such as CGI or PERL. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

ITSC 2439   Personal Computer Help Desk (4)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: ITSC 1405 and (ITSW 1401 or ITSW 2431) and (ITSW 1404 or ITSW 1434) and (ITSW 1407 or ITSW 2437) or instructor approval.
Diagnosis and solution of users hardware and software related problems with on-the-job projects. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)
