ANTH 2101   Physical Anthropology (Lab) (1)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
Corequisite: Students must concurrently be enrolled in ANTH 2101 and ANTH 2301. Overview of human origins and biocultural adaptations. Also introduces methods and theory in the excavation and interpretation of material remains of past cultures. (3 Lab.)

This course is an anthropological approach to archeology. Topics include an introduction to the study of humanity's past. How archeologists retrieve, process, analyze and interpret surviving prehistoric materials is covered, as well as a survey of world prehistory through Neolithic times. (3 Lec.)

This course surveys the origin of mankind involving the processes of physical and cultural evolution, ancient man, and preliterate man. Attention is centered on fossil evidence, physiology and family/group roles and status. (3 Lec.)

This course introduces students to the elements and processes that create culture, society and social interaction. Language, cross-cultural communication, fieldwork, and analysis of multi-cultural societies are covered. A special emphasis is given to cross-cultural comparison and analysis of basic social institutions on a global scale in order to provide students with an appreciation and understanding of the underlying unity of diverse cultural expressions. (3 Lec.)
