EMSP 1160   Clinical - Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (1)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent.
Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in co-requisite course EMSP 1501.
A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. (4 Ext.)

EMSP 1338   Introduction to Advanced Practice (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: (1) Current CPR certification preferred, (2) Completion of Texas Department of State Health Services approved Emergency Medical Technician course or certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry of EMT as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher, (3) Demonstrated competency in math, reading, and writing.
An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. This course is cross-listed as EMSP 1438. The student may register for either EMSP 1338 or EMSP 1438, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

EMSP 1355   Trauma Management (3)

Prerequisite: (1) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (2) Current certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher, (3) Successful completion of EMSP 1356.
A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with traumatic injuries. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

Prerequisite: (1) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (2) Demonstrated competency in math, reading, and writing.
Corequisite: Concurrent enrollment in co-requisite course EMSP 1160.
Introduction to the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with ambulance services or other specialized services. (2 Lec., 9 Lab.)

EMSP 2143   Assessment Based Management (1)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: (1) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (2) Successful completion of EMSP 2160 or EMSP 2260, (3) Current certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher.
Comprehensive, assessment-based patient care management. Includes specific care when dealing with pediatric, adult, geriatric, and special needs patients. (2 Lab.)

EMSP 2160   Clinical-Emergency Medical EMT Paramedic (1)

Prerequisite: (1) Completion of Department of State Health Services approved Basic Emergency Medical Technician Course, or certification by Department of State Health Services as Emergency Medical Technician, (2) current CPR certification as health care provider, (3) demonstrated competency in reading and math, and (4) Anatomy and Physiology course for Paramedics or equivalency.

Prerequisite: (1) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (2) Successful completion of EMSP 1338 or EMSP 1438 and EMSP 1356, (3) Current certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher.
A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence to safely manage the scene of an emergency. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

Prerequisite: (1) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (2) Successful completion of EMSP 1338 or EMSP 1438 and EMSP 1356, (3) Current certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher.
A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of ill or injured patients in nontraditional populations. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.)

EMSP 2534   Medical Emergencies (5)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of EMSP 1338 or 1438, and EMSP 2444 or 2544.
A detailed study of the knowledge and skills necessary to reach competence in the assessment and management of patients with medical emergencies. This course is cross-listed as EMSP 2434. The student may register for either EMSP 2534 or EMSP 2434, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (4 Lec., 2 Lab.)

EMSP 2544   Cardiology (5)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: (1) Completion of Department of State Health Services approved Emergency Medical Technician Course, or certification by Completion of Department of State Health Services or National Registry of EMT's as Emergency Medical Technician, (2) current CPR certification as health care provider, (3) demonstrated competency in math and reading, and (4) Anatomy and Physiology for Paramedics course or equivalency.
Assessment and management of patients with cardiac emergencies. Includes basic dysrhythmia interpretation, recognition of 12-lead EKG's for field diagnosis, and electrical and pharmacological interventions. This course is cross-listed as EMSP 2444. The student may register for either EMSP 2444 or EMSP 2544, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (5 Lec.)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the following courses: (1) EMSP 2338 (EMS Operations), (2) EMSP 2143 (Assessment Based Management), and (3) EMSP 2362 (Clinical-EMT Paramedic).
