The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree is a Board-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an EC-4 Teacher Certification at Stephan F. Austin State University.

The Stephen F. Austin State University portion of this degree is delivered primarily in an on-line format and may be of interest to those students who are "place-bound" within the Metroplex.

In order to be eligible to receive this AAT degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 66 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, English 1302 and Speech 1315, and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.5 in the DCCCD. However, students entering the SFA on-line program must have a GPA of 3.00.
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites;
  5. Have passed THEA with minimum scores of 245 in reading, 230 in math, and 220 in writing; and
  6. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

This degree may be taken within the DCCCD through a combination of on-campus and distance education offerings; or if planned correctly, the degree may be completed entirely through distance education. Receiving institutions are not required to accept a grade below "C" in transfer. Please note that the SFA portion of the bachelors degree is an on-line program.
