ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCES DEGREE WITH AN EMPHASIS IN TEACHING EC-4 EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALIZATION ONLY
Available at all DCCCD Colleges
and Transferable to the University of North Texas (Dallas or Denton Campus)

Degree Code: AS.UNT.EC-4.SPECIAL

This is an "Articulated Emphasis" degree. Students should read and understand the paragraphs below.

Students completing all courses in this plan will receive an AS degree and will be assured all courses with a grade of "C" or better will transfer into UNT's Department of Education. This plan is for those who plan to transfer to the University of North Texas and who are interested in earning certification to teach Early Childhood through Grade 3 in a generalist classroom with early childhood specialization. Students will be admitted into the program with DCCCD GPA (2) of at least 2.75. Students MUST take the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) test and score at least 240 on Reading, 220 on Writing, and 230 on Math in order to be accepted into this program at UNT.

This AS plan incorporates the Core Curriculum plus 18 hours toward the degree. The AS degree will be awarded when students complete all requirements at a minimum of 66 credit hours.

In order to be eligible to receive this AS degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 66 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, either Speech 1311 or 1315, and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.75;
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites; and
  5. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

Students who plan to transfer must work closely with an advisor/counselor.
