ECON 1303   Economics of Contemporary Social Issues (3)

Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
This course is an application of the basic economic concepts to the study of social issues and issues of public policy. Topics such as the environment, health care, welfare reform, poverty, job security and economic growth are discussed. This course may also serve as preparation for Economics 2301 and Economics 2302, but will not replace either of these courses where they are required in a specific degree plan. (3 Lec.)

ECON 2301   Principles of Economics I (3)

Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
Sophomore standing is recommended. An introduction to principles of macroeconomics is presented. Economic principles are studied within the framework of classical, Keynesian, monetarist and alternative models. Emphasis is given to national income determination, money and banking, and the role of monetary and fiscal policy in economic stabilization and growth. Other topics include international trade and finance. (3 Lec.)

ECON 2302   Principles of Economics II (3)

Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
The principles of microeconomics are presented. Topics include the theory of demand, supply, and price of factors. Income distribution and theory of the firm are also included. Emphasis is given to microeconomic applications of international trade and finance as well as other contemporary microeconomic problems. (3 Lec.)

ECON 2311   Economics of Global Issues (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading.
This course examines the history and theory of international trade and global economic development. Economic, social, cultural, and political issues which impact the global economy and basic human welfare are studied. This course is cross-listed as Geography 2312. The student may register for either Economics 2311 or Geography 2312, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.)
