RNSG 1327 Transition from Vocational to Professional Nursing (3)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: Current Texas LVN license, admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program, and "C" grade or better in SCIT 1407 or BIOL 2401, PSYC 2301, ENGL 1301, and MATH 1314 equaling a grade point average of 2.5 or better. Additional prerequisites include SCIT 1408 or BIOL 2402, BIOL 2420, PSYC 2314 and SPCH 1311 with a minimum grade of "C." Licensed Vocational Nurses will take this course in place of RNSG 1119, RNSG 1423, RNSG 1460, RNSG 2504, RNSG 1129, and RNSG 1461. Concurrent enrollment in corequisite courses RNSG 1161 and RNSG 1270. Topics include health promotion, expanded assessment, analysis of data, nursing process, pharmacology, multidisciplinary teamwork, communication, and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework throughout the lifespan. Specific areas of emphasis include the role of the nurse in the management of clients with problems of fluid and electrolytes, inflammation/immune response, nutrition and clients during childbearing and child rearing ages.
