BITC 1302 Biotechnology Laboratory Methods and Techniques (3)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and/or approval of the instructor. A study of laboratory operations, management, equipment, instrumentation, quality control techniques, and safety procedures. Laboratory practice in using pH meters, mixing buffers, performing measurements, preparing solutions, and performing separatory techniques to specifications; and practice laboratory safety. This is a WECM Course Number. An introduction to biotechnology including career exploration, history and applications of DNA/RNA technology, molecular biology, bioethics, and laboratory safety practices. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

BITC 1350 Special Studies and Bioethical Issues of Biotechnology (3)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and or approval of instructor. Addresses current events, skills, attitudes, and behaviors pertinent to biotechnology and relevant to the professional development of the student. Will also explore ethical and legal behaviors in the context of the biotechnology industry. (3 Lec.)

This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and/or approval of instructor. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledges, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. (3 Lec.)

BITC 1491 Special Topics in Biological Technology/Technician (4)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 2286, BITC 2401, BITC 2431 and or approval of instructor. Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledges, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course will include special research studies and projects undertaken by the student in order to graduate from the curriculum. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. BITC 2286 Internship - Biology Technician/ Biotechnology Laboratory Technician (2)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and BITC 1302 and/or approval of instructor. A work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts. A learning plan is developed by the college and the employer. (6 Ext.)

BITC 2311 Biotechnology Laboratory Instrumentation (3)
This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and or approval of instructor. Presentation of theory, applications, and operation of various analytical instruments. Practice of separation and identification techniques including electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, chromatography, and centrifugation. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and/or approval of instructor. A study of cell culture techniques. Laboratory emphasis on the principles and practices of initiation, cultivation, maintenance, preservation of cell lines and applications. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

This is a WECM Course Number. Prerequisite: BITC 1311 and or approval of instructor. In depth coverage of the theory and laboratory techniques in molecular biology with an emphasis on gene expression and regulation, recombinant DNA, and nucleic acids. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)
