DSPE 1200   Introduction to Pediatric Echocardiography Techniques (2) New course added March 9, 2010
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Admission to the program.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students must be concurrently enrolled in DSAE 2303, DMSO 2343, and DSPE 1260.
An introduction to pediatric echocardiography techniques and procedures. Emphasis is placed on the sonographic appearance of the normal neonatal and pediatric heart. Basic scan protocol to include 2-D, M-mode, Doppler and standard measurements. (2 Lec.)

DSPE 1260   Clinical-Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Sonographer and Ultrasound Technician (2) New course added March 9, 2010
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Admission to the program. Current American Heart Association Class C Basic Life Support certification.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students must be concurrently enrolled in DSAE 2303, DMSO 2343, and DSPE 1200.
A health related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. (10 Ext.)

DSPE 2353   Pediatric Echocardiography Procedures (3) New course added March 9, 2010
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed all previous program and support courses with a grade of "C" or better.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students must be concurrently enrolled in DSPE 2405 and DSPE 2660.
Advanced pediatric echocardiographic procedures including: 12 lead EKG interpretation, transesophageal echocardiography, the use of contrast, intra-operative and interventional techniques. Considerations associated with intensive care of the pediatric patient will be addressed and includes; intracardiac monitoring lines and other accessories of the post-operative patient, pharmacological treatments, and other therapies. (3 Lec.)

DSPE 2405   Pediatric Echocardiographic Evaluation (4) New course added March 9, 2010
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed all previous program and support courses with a grade of "C" or better.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students must be concurrently enrolled in DSPE 2353 and DSPE 2660.
Cardiac embryology, fetal circulation and cardiac congenital diseases including anomalies of cardiac position, venous return, A-V valves and the atria and ventricles. Emphasis will be placed on defect anatomy and hemodynamic consequences, and the surgical repair or other treatment options associated with each anomaly. Echocardiographic imaging in the pre and post surgical patient will be covered. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

DSPE 2447   Pediatric Echocardiographic Evaluation II (4) New course added March 9, 2010

Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed all previous program and support courses with a grade of "C" or better.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students must be concurrently enrolled in DSAE 2355 and DSPE 2661.
A study of cardiac congenital anomalies of the cono-truncus, aortic arch and broncho-pulmonary circuit. Cardiac tumors, non-neoplastic intra and extra cardiac masses, pericardial and pediatric acquired cardiovascular disease will be covered. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)

DSPE 2660   Clinical-Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Sonographer and Ultrasound Technician (6) New course added March 9, 2010
