Basic heat transfer theory; sensible and latent heat loads; building envelope construction; insulin, lighting, and fenestration types; and conducting energy audit procedures. The course develops energy audit recommends based on local utility rates building use, and construction. This course introduces the fundamentals of heating, air conditioning, ventilating and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems, provides a method to prepare, understand and analyze a building and systems load profiles, and describes types and functions of major components of all energy consuming equipment within a building including air and water systems in aspects of primary and secondary system structure. This course introduces techniques to identify and analyze opportunities in operation and maintenance, and improvement of energy efficiency in each energy system and interactive effects as a whole system. The course provides methodology to calculate energy savings or cost savings. It also should explain the role of corrective, preventative and performance maintenance for buildings and their relation to control systems and demonstrates entry-level technician skills to calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and maintain energy control systems.
