MSST 1301   Medical Staff Services I (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
The medical staff office in a health care organization. Includes the role of the office, organization of health care facilities, credentialing of medical staff and allied health practitioners, staff appointments, privileged delineation, monitoring and documenting, proctoring, peer review, medical management, and preparing agendas and minutes. (3 Lec.)

MSST 1302   Medical Staff Law (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Designed to introduce students to the U.S. legal system as it applies to credentialing and peer review aspects of the health care delivery system and Medical Staff Services including legal terminology, statutes, ethical decisions, liability and negligence in credentialing and peer review activities. (3 Lec.)

MSST 1340   Medical Staff Services II (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: MSST 1301 with a minimum grade of "C."
A continuation of MSST 1301, Medical Staff Services I. Includes the process of meeting standards of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), state licensure laws, and other regulatory requirements. (3 Lec.)

MSST 1341   Performance Improvement (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Focuses on performance improvement and quality management in health care. Theories fundamental to Total Quality Management (TQM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) are explored and applied to the health care setting. Evolution of efforts to measure quality in healthcare organizations and attitudes of physicians concerning these efforts are examined. Statistical tools and use of CQI teams are described. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) Performance Improvement Standards are covered, with emphasis on expectations of the medical staff organization. The description of a hospital risk management program and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) required monitors are also reviewed. (3 Lec.)

MSST 1380   Cooperative Education-Medical Staff Services Directed Study (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: All other Medical Staff Services courses with a minimum grade of C.
Career-related activities encountered in the student's area of specialization offered through an individualized agreement among the college, employer, and student. Under the supervision of the college and the employer, the student combines classroom learning with work experience. Includes a lecture component. (1 Lec., 20 Ext.)

MSST 2331   Medical Staff Services III (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: MSST 1340 Medical Staff Services II with a minimum grade of C.
An advanced course building on bylaws and methods to research and review applications and credentials to determine privileging, establish a peer review process, and investigate problem areas. (3 Lec.)
