HIST 2311 Western Civilization (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: Developmental Reading 0093 or English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 or have met the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standard in Reading. The civilization in the West from ancient times through the Enlightenment is surveyed. Topics include the Mediterranean world, including Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, and the beginnings of modern history. Particular emphasis is on the Renaissance, Reformation, the rise of the national state, the development of parliamentary government, and the influences of European colonization. (3 Lec.)
