Study of human behavior with emphasis on emotional and mental abnormalities and modes of treatment incorporating the nursing process. (1 Lec.)

VNSG 1204   Foundations of Nursing (2)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Introduction to the nursing profession including history, standards of practice, legal and ethical issues, and role of the vocational nurse. Topics include mental health, therapeutic communication, cultural and spiritual diversity, nursing process, and holistic awareness. (2 Lec.)

VNSG 1227   Essentials of Medication Administration (2)

General principles of medication administration including determination of dosage, preparation, safe administration, and documentation of multiple forms of drugs. Instruction includes various systems of measurement. (2 Lec.)

VNSG 1306   Maternal/Newborn Nursing (3)
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: All Level II Vocational Nursing courses.
A study of the biological, psychological and sociological concepts applicable to basic needs of the family including childbearing and neonatal care. Topics include physiological changes related to pregnancy, fetal development, and nursing care of the family during labor and delivery and the puerperium. (3 Lec.)

Mastery of entry level nursing skills and competencies for a variety of health care settings. Utilization of the nursing process as the foundation of all nursing interventions. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

Prerequisite: Completion of all Level II Vocational Nursing courses.
Study of childhood diseases and childcare from infancy through adolescence. Focus on the care of the well and the ill child utilizing the nursing process. (3 Lec.)

VNSG 1360   Clinical - Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Training (3)

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Focus is on the care of the geriatric patient. (9 Ext.)

Prerequisite: All Level I Vocational Nursing Courses.
VNSG 2460 must be taken concurrently with VNSG 1410. Continuation of Nursing in Health and Illness II. Further study of common medical-surgical health problems of the adult including concepts of mental Illness. Prerequisite: All Level I Vocational Nursing Courses. VNSG 2460 must be taken concurrently with VNSG 1510.
Continuation of Nursing in Health and Illness II. Further study of common medical-surgical health problems of the client including concepts of mental illness. Incorporates knowledge necessary to make the transition from student to graduate vocational nurse. (4 Lec., 3 Lab.)
