This is an "Emphasis" degree. Students should read and understand the paragraphs below.

Degree Code: AA.AABS

This degree plan is designed to meet the needs of students who plan to transfer to a four-year college/university. Students planning to continue their African American/Black Studies as a transfer student should check specific requirements at the transfer institution. This plan may not satisfy all the requirements of a specific transfer four-year college/university. Students should work closely with an academic advisor/counselor.

In order to be eligible to receive this AA degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 63 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, Speech 1311, and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.00 ("C");
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites; and
  5. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

*NOTE: When the courses are available, it is strongly recommended that students take the following required core curriculum courses (see asterisks) that have the AABS designation.
