The following MATH courses meet the requirements for Core Curriculum EXCEPT: MATH 1370, POFT 1321, TECM 1303, TECM 1317, TECM 1341 and TECM 1349.MATH 1314 is a 3 credit hour lecture course. MATH 1414 is a 4 credit hour lecture course. Either course will meet degree requirements. A student may receive credit for MATH 1314 or MATH 1414 but not both.
MATH 1314 College Algebra (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra and an appropriate assessment test score or Developmental Mathematics 0099 or Developmental Mathematics 0093. This course is study of relations and functions including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and special functions. Other topics may include complex numbers, systems of equations and inequalities, theory of equations, progressions, the binomial theorem, matrices and determinants, mathematical reasoning skills, sequences and series, and applications. This course is cross-listed as Math 1414. The student may register for either Math 1314 or Math 1414, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.)

MATH 1316 Plane Trigonometry (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: MATH 1314 or MATH 1414 or equivalent. This course is a study of angular measures, trigonometric functions, identities, solutions of triangles, equations, inverse trigonometric functions, complex numbers, and applications. (3 Lec.)

MATH 1324 Mathematics for Business and Economics (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra and an appropriate assessment test score or Developmental Mathematics 0099 or Developmental Mathematics 0093. Topics from college algebra (linear equations, quadratic equations, functions and graphs, inequalities), mathematics of finance (simple and compound interest, annuities), linear programming, matrices, systems of linear equations, applications to management, economics, and business. This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: MATH 1324, MATH 1314 or MATH 1414. Limits and continuity, derivatives, graphing and optimization, exponential and logarithmic functions, antiderivatives, integration, applications to management, economics, and business. MATH 1332 College Mathematics I (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra and an appropriate assessment test score or Developmental Mathematics 0099 or Developmental Mathematics 0093. Designed for liberal arts students, this course includes the study of sets, logic, sets of numbers, and mathematical systems. Additional topics will be selected from mathematics of finance, introduction to computers, introduction to statistics, and introduction to matrices. This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: MATH 1316. This course consists of the study of algebraic and trigonometric topics including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their graphs.
