ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE WITH AN EMPHASIS IN TEACHING EARLY CHILDHOOD - GRADE 6
(BILINGUAL)

Available at all DCCCD Colleges
and Transferable to the University of Texas at Arlington

This is an "Articulated Emphasis" degree. Students should read and understand the paragraphs below.

Students completing all courses in this plan will receive an AA degree and will be assured all courses with a grade of "C" or better will transfer into UTA's College of Education for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Studies with teacher certification in Early Childhood - Grade 6/Bilingual. Students will be admitted into the program with a DCCCD GPA (2) of at least 2.75. Students MUST take the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) test and score at least 270 on Reading, 220 on Writing, and 230 on Math in order to be accepted into this program at UTA.

This AA plan incorporates the Core Curriculum plus 18 hours toward the degree. The AA degree will be awarded when students complete all requirements at a minimum of 60 credit hours. Students are also permitted to acquire an additional 8 hours beyond the AA degree before transferring to UTA.

In order to be eligible to receive this AA degree, a student must:

  1. Complete a minimum of 60 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
  2. Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, either Speech 1311, 1315 or 1321 and the selected college-level mathematics course;
  3. Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.00 ("C");
  4. Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course requirements; and
  5. Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.
Students who plan to transfer must work closely with an advisor/counselor.
