VIET 1311 (3 Credit Hours)

Beginning Vietnamese I
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a DCCCD Core Curriculum Course.
Course Description: This is the first semester of academic transfer Vietnamese. It is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as VIET 1411 but is also used in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either VIET 1311 or VIET 1411 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

Beginning Vietnamese II
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a DCCCD Core Curriculum Course.
Prerequisite: VIET 1311 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the second semester of academic transfer Vietnamese. It continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in VIET 1311. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as VIET 1412. The student may register for either VIET 1312 or VIET 1412, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

Prerequisite: VIET 1412 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the third semester of academic transfer Vietnamese. This course is designed to further develop students' overall language proficiency and cultural knowledge through more advanced reading, listening, speaking and writing exercises. Grammatical concepts are reviewed and expanded. (3 Lec.)

Intermediate Vietnamese II
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a DCCCD Core Curriculum Course.
Prerequisite: VIET 2311 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the fourth semester of academic transfer Vietnamese. This course is a continuation of VIET 2311. The stress is on reading, composition, grammatical complexities, and intense oral practice, with continued studies of the culture. (3 Lec.)
