ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCES DEGREE WITH AN EMPHASIS IN TEACHING 4-8 MIDDLE LEVEL (GENERALIST)

This is an "Articulated Emphasis" degree. Students should read and understand the paragraphs below.
Students completing all courses in this plan will receive an AS degree and will be assured all courses with a grade of "C" or better will transfer into UTA's College of Education for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Students will be admitted into the program with a DCCCD GPA (2) of at least 2.75. Students MUST take the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) test and score at least 270 on Reading, 220 on Writing, and 230 on Math in order to be accepted into this program at UTA.
This AS plan incorporates the Core Curriculum plus 20 hours toward the degree. The AS degree will be awarded when students complete all requirements at a minimum of 62 credit hours. Students are also permitted to acquire an additional 11 hours beyond the AS degree before transferring to UTA.
In order to be eligible to receive this AS degree, a student must:
- Complete a minimum of 62 credit hours including all the required courses listed;
- Earn a grade of "C" or better in
English 1301, either
Speech 1311, 1315 or 1321 and the selected college-level mathematics course;
- Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.75;
- Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites; and
- Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.
Students who plan to transfer must work closely with an advisor/counselor.
