Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in ENGL 1301, CHEM 1405 or CHEM 1411, SCIT 1407 or BIOL 2401 and PSYC 2301. Admission to the Professional Nursing Program or administrative approval.
Course Description: Study of the concepts and principles essential for demonstrating competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Topics include knowledge, judgment skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. (3 Lab.)

Clinical - Nursing - Registered Nurse Training

Prerequisite: RNSG 1413, RNSG 1105, RNSG 1360, ENGL 1301, and CHEM 1405. Additional prerequisites include SCIT 1408 OR BIOL 2402, and PSYC 2314.
Course Description: A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Focus is on health promotion, expanded assessment, multi-disciplinary teamwork, communication, and the role of the nurse within a legal/ethical framework in a mental health setting. Content includes applicable competencies in basic workplace skills. (3 Ext.)

Nursing Pathophysiology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: BIOL 2401 or SCIT 1407. Co-requisite: SCIT 1408 or BIOL 2402.
Course Description: Basic principles of pathophysiology emphasizing nursing applications. Topics include principles of homeostasis related to body systems. (2 Lec.)

Pharmacology

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in SCIT 1407 or Biology 2401 and concurrent enrollment in SCIT 1408 or Biology 2402. Registered Nurses or Licensed Vocational Nurses may enroll for refresher purposes.
Course Description: Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in safe administration of medications within a legal/ethical framework. (3 Lec.)

Foundations for Nursing Practice

Prerequisite: ENGL 1301, CHEM 1405 or CHEM 1411, BIOL 2401 OR SCIT 1407, and PSYC 2301 with a minimum grade of "C." Admission to the Professional Nursing Program or administrative approval.
Course Description: Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. (4 Lec.)

Utilizes systematic problem-solving process and critical-thinking skills to provide nursing care to individuals with complex health care needs in diverse health care settings. Focus is on health promotion, work organization, time management, communication techniques, ethical/legal aspects, and critical-thinking skills. Emphasis is on performance of assessment, pharmacotherapeutic interventions, and the collaborative role of the nurse in the delivery of nursing care. Content includes applicable competencies in course-related and basic workplace skills. (15 Ext.)
