Welding Safety, Tools, and Equipment

Course Description: An introduction to welding careers and safety practice, including welding safety; OSHA and the Hazardous Communication Act; Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); basic mathematics; measuring systems; shop operations; use and care of precision measuring tools; and the use and care of hand and power tools. Instruction on various types of welding equipment and processes, basic welding gases, fluxes, rods, electrodes, symbols, and blueprints. Lab required. (2 Lec., 3 Lab.)

Course Description: Instruction using layout tools and blueprint reading with demonstration and guided practices with some of the following welding processes: gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), or any other approved welding process. Course Description: This course provides a more in depth understanding of the SMAW process. Position of welds will be 1G, 2G, 5G, and 6G using various electrodes. Topics covered include electrode selection, equipment setup, and safe shop practices. (1 Lec., 3 Lab.)
