CDEC 1318 (3 Credit Hours)

Wellness of the Young Child
This is a WECM Course Number.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search by the certification date as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course.
Course Description: Factors impacting the well-being of young children. Includes healthy behavior, food, nutrition, fitness, and safety practices. Focuses on local and national standards and legal implications of relevant policies and regulations. Course content is aligned with State Board of Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Requires students to participate in a minimum of 15 hours field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. (3 Lec.)

Child Guidance
This is a WECM Course Number.

Course Description: An exploration of guidance strategies for promoting prosocial behaviors with individual and groups of children. Emphasis on positive guidance principles and techniques, family involvement and cultural influences. Practical application through direct participation with children. (3 Lec.)

Children with Special Needs
This is a WECM Course Number.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search by the certification date as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course.
Course Description: A survey of information regarding children with special needs including possible causes and characteristics of exceptionalities, intervention strategies, available resources, referral processes, the advocacy role, and legislative issues. (3 Lec.)

CDEC 2441 (4 Credit Hours)
Offered at BHC, CVC, EFC

The School Age Child
This is a WECM Course Number.
Corequisite/Concurrent: Students will be required to submit to and pass a criminal background search by the certification date as prescribed by the program and college. Failure to comply will result in the student being dropped from the course.
Course Description: A study of appropriate age (5 to 13 years) programs, including an overview of development, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques. This course is cross-listed as CDEC 2341. The student may register for either CDEC 2341 or CDEC 2441 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.)
