ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCES DEGREE WITH A FIELD OF STUDY IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

This degree plan is designed to meet the needs of students who plan to major in Computer Science and transfer to a four-year college or university. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approves the field of study in Computer Science included in this degree. This degree plan will constitute a semester credit hour transfer block to any public Texas four-year college or university with a Computer Science Major. Transferring students shall not be required to repeat courses transferred as part of the field of study curriculum. Completion of the field of study curriculum shall not prevent a receiving institution from requiring additional lower-division courses that may be necessary for specific degree programs. Because of the complexity of requirements, student must plan very carefully and work with an advisor/counselor.

In order to be eligible to receive this AS degree, a student must:

Complete a minimum of 64 credit hours including the courses listed below;
Earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1301, either Speech 1311, 1315 or 1321 and the selected college-level mathematics course;
Receive a GPA (2) of at least 2.00 ("C");
Meet all Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards and course prerequisites; and
Complete at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by the college awarding the degree.

It is recommended that students complete the math sequence, physics sequence, and computer science sequence at the same institution to reduce the likelihood of potential gaps in the curriculum.

¹ MATH 2513 has the prerequisite of MATH 2412, which has the prerequisite of MATH 1316, which has the prerequisite of MATH 1314 or 1414, which has the prerequisite of two years of high school algebra and an appropriate assessment score or DMAT 0099 or 0093.

² PHYS 2425 has the prerequisite of credit or concurrent enrollment in MATH 2513.

³ PHYS 2426 has the prerequisite of PHYS 2425 and credit or concurrent enrollment in MATH 2414.

⁴ COSC 1436 is not part of the Computer Science major requirements at The University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas, and Texas A & M University.

⁵ COSC 1437 has the prerequisite of COSC 1436. COSC 1437 is not part of the Computer Science major requirements at The University of Texas at Austin. Preparatory courses such as COSC 1436 and COSC 1437 will assist students that need additional background but do not apply toward the computer science major requirements.

⁶ COSC 2436 has the prerequisite of COSC 1437.

⁷ COSC 2425 has the prerequisite of COSC 1436. COSC 2425 is not part of the Computer Science major requirements at The University of Texas at Austin or Texas A & M University, but may be applied to general degree requirements.
