This program is designed to prepare the student for a career as a Teacher Assistant/Aide with specialization in either Bilingual/Bicultural Education or English as a Second Language.
The Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Assistant/Aide specialization provides instructional training to prepare graduates to assist children in dual language instruction in the Pre K through 4 classroom setting. The program is also designed to meet the No Child Left Behind federal guideline for all employed and those seeking employment as instructional teacher assistants. The students must complete the Applied Associate in Sciences Degree in Bilingual Teacher Assistant/Aide Option as outlined. Students who pursue this program specialization should also ask about special university transfer articulation agreements for teacher education with selected Texas Universities.
The English as a Second Language Teacher Assistant/Aide specialization provides instructional training to prepare graduates to assist children in English language acquisition in the Pre K through 12 classroom setting. The English as a Second Language Assistant/Aide is employed under various job titles: Special Education Aide, ESL Assistant/Aide, Early Childhood Assistant, Library Assistant/Aide, Tutor, etc. The program is also designed to meet the No Child Left Behind federal guideline for all employed and those seeking employment as instructional teacher assistants.
