MDCA 1205 (2 Credit Hours)

Medical Law and Ethics
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: GED or High School Diploma and admission to program.
Course Description: Instruction in principles, procedures, and regulations involving legal and ethical relationships among physicians, patients, and medical assistants in ambulatory care settings. Includes current ethical issues and risk management as they relate to the practice of medicine and fiduciary responsibilities. Special emphasis is place on culture, diversity, trends and career explorations. (2 Lec.)

MDCA 1302 (3 Credit Hours)

Human Disease/Pathophysiology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: SCIT 1407 Human Anatomy and Physiology I, SCIT 1408 Human Anatomy and Physiology II, HITT 1205 Medical Terminology and HITT 2231 Medical Terminology - Advanced.
Course Description: A study of anatomy and physiology with emphasis on human pathophysiology, including etiology, prognosis, medical treatment, signs, and symptoms of common diseases of all body systems. This course is cross-listed as MDCA 1202. The student may register for either MDCA 1302 or MDCA 1202 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (2 Lec., 2 Lab.)

MDCA 1313 (3 Credit Hours)
Offered at BHC, CVC, EFC, ECC, MVC

Medical Terminology
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: GED or High School Diploma and admission to program.
Course Description: A study and practical application of a medical vocabulary system. Includes structure, recognition, analysis, definition, spelling, pronunciation, and combination of medical terms from prefixes, suffixes, roots, and combining forms. This course is cross-listed as MDCA 1213. The student may register for either MDCA 1313 or MDCA 1213 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec.)

MDCA 1421 (4 Credit Hours)
Offered at ECC, MVC

Administrative Procedures
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: MDCA 1313, MDCA 1201.
Course Description: A course in medical office procedures which may include appointment scheduling, medical records creation and maintenance, phone communications, transcriptions, coding, billing, collecting, third party reimbursement, credit arrangements, and use of computer in the medical office. (4 Lec.)

MDCA 1443 (4 Credit Hours)
Offered at ECC, MVC

Medical Insurance
This is a WECM Course Number.
Prerequisite: MDCA 1313 and MDCA 1201.
Course Description: Emphasizes accurate ICD-9 and CPT coding of office procedures for payment/ reimbursement by patient or third party and prevention of insurance fraud. Additional topics may include managed care or medical economics. (4 Lec.)
