Beginning Spanish Conversation I
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Course Description: Basic practice in comprehension and production of the spoken language. Emphasis on oral communication with an introduction of basic grammatical concepts and the development of reading and vocabulary skills. Cultural topics will be discussed. Beginning Spanish I
This is a Texas Common Course Number. This is a Core Curriculum course selected by the colleges of DCCCD.
Course Description: This is the first semester of academic transfer Spanish. It is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as SPAN 1411 but is also used in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either SPAN 1311 or SPAN 1411 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

Prerequisite: SPAN 1411 or the equivalent, or SPAN 1300 and SPAN 1311, or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
Course Description: This is the second semester of academic transfer Spanish. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in SPAN 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as SPAN 1312, which is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either SPAN 1312 or SPAN 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two. Course Description: This course is designed to strengthen and improve oral skills in the language. Oral activities focus on current events, cultural, historical and social issues. Audio-visual media are used to explore Hispanic life and society. This course is intended to complement Spanish 2311. Topics vary from semester to semester. This course may be repeated for credit. This course is designed to further develop students' overall language proficiency and cultural knowledge through more advanced reading, listening, speaking and writing exercises. Intermediate Spanish II

Course Description: This is the fourth semester of academic transfer Spanish. This course is a continuation of SPAN 2311. The stress is on reading, composition, grammatical complexities, and intense oral practice, with continued studies of the culture. (3 Lec.)
