Western Civilization
This is a Texas Common Course Number. Prerequisite: One of the following must be met: (1) DREA 0093 AND DWRI 0093; (2) English as a Second Language (ESOL) 0044 AND 0054; or (3) have met Texas Success Initiative (TSI) in Reading and Writing standards AND the college Writing score prerequisite requirement.
Course Description: The civilization in the West from ancient times through the Enlightenment is surveyed. Topics include the Mediterranean world, including Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, and the beginnings of modern history. Particular emphasis is on the Renaissance, Reformation, the rise of the national state, the development of parliamentary government, and the influences of European colonization. (3 Lec.)
