The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a two-year, 60 credit hour program, leading to the Associate of Applied Science Degree. The program prepares graduates to be eligible to write the NCLEX-RN Examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in Texas. The program offered at North Lake is under the administration and accreditation of the El Centro College Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students will attend classes at North Lake, but receive their degrees from El Centro. The program combines classroom and skills laboratory experience.

A Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may complete the Associate Degree Nursing Program (LVN to RN).

Advanced Placement ("Bridge") Program at El Centro College only:

Integration of previous health care knowledge and skills into the role development of the professional nurse as a provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team, and member of the profession. This program lends itself to a concept-based approach.

LVN's who are accepted to the Advanced Placement Program enroll into three advanced placement or "bridge" courses: a three-credit hour lecture course (RNSG 1324), a one-credit-hour skills component (RNSG 1118), and a one-credit hour nursing competencies component (RNSG 1126) which involve 2-3 full days of classes for the first semester of the Advanced Placement Program. After successful completion of the "bridge" semester courses, the student transitions into the third semester of the Associate Degree curriculum to complete the final two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program. At the completion of the program, 13 additional credit hours are awarded for selected courses from the first two semesters of the traditional Associate Degree Nursing program.

LVN licensed students admitted into the Associate Degree Nursing program will follow the degree plan below.

*Upon successful completion of RNSG 1324, the student will be awarded an additional 13 semester credit hours of equivalency (articulated) credit for the following courses:

+Humanities/Fine Arts Elective - must be selected from the AAS Core Options for Humanities/Fine Arts.

++BIOL 1406 Biology for Science Majors 1I or CLEP exam are prerequisites to BIOL 2401 Anatomy and Physiology 1I.

A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses. Support courses must be completed before or during the semester indicated.
